Ken MacGray is a freelance writer and guidebook author. He's worked on New Hampshire's 52 With A View - A Hiker's Guide (self-published), AMC's Southern New Hampshire Trail Guide (starting with the 5th Edition), and the White Mountain Guide (starting with the 31st edition), also for AMC. He's recently completed the 6th Edition of the Southern New Hampshire Trail Guide, which will be published in 2025, and is starting work on the 32nd edition of the White Mountain Guide, which will be out in 2027. He lives in southern New Hampshire and can usually be found wandering throughout the state's forests.

He's worked on three books so far, the self-published New Hampshire's 52 With A View - A Hiker's Guide (1st Edition, 2019; 2nd Edition, 2020), the Southern New Hampshire Trail Guide (5th Edition, 2021), and the White Mountain Guide (31st Edition, 2022), both for Appalachian Mountain Club.
He's recently completed the 6th Edition of the Southern New Hampshire Trail Guide, which will be published in 2025, and is starting work on the 32nd edition of the White Mountain Guide, which will be out in 2027.He also works with Only In Your State as part of their Northeast Region writing team, helping to get the word out about interesting and unusual places to go, see, and stay in the New England area.
Ken began his career in the graphic design field, working as a designer in the advertising and media industries. Before transitioning into writing, he was a member of the website development team at telegram.com, the online division of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette in Worcester, MA, beginning under the ownership of the New York Times. In 2016, he left the news business and relocated to New Hampshire to be closer to the mountains he loves. He's also a photographer but prefers to continue that as a hobby.
He’s a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club’s 4,000-Footer club and has completed multiple rounds of the 52 With A View, among other hiking accomplishments. He has hiked extensively throughout New Hampshire and New England, and can usually be found wandering throughout the hills of the region, exploring new places both on and off the beaten path.
