NH 52 WITH A VIEW FACEBOOK GROUP GUIDELINES

(Note: This is a mirror of the group guidelines found here.)

Welcome to the NH 52 With A View group on Facebook, a respectful and supportive group to share trail information, hiking experiences and photos for peaks on the New Hampshire "52 With A View" hiking list. Below are a few guidelines to be aware of to keep the group running smoothly. By being a member of this group, you are agreeing to these guidelines, so please read them carefully.

1. Be cool.

2. Don't be not cool. See #1.

3. Don't troll. Trolls are not cool, and you don't want to be not cool. Troll-ish posts and comments will be removed along with the member making them if such posts and comments continue. Anyone who is removed from the group may also be blocked, so they won't be able to rejoin.

4. Please keep posts directly related to the specific focus of this group, which is the 52WAV peaks. This group is different in that we don't get into general hiking discussion, gear talk, or the 4,000 footers. Those topics are well-covered in other groups. Off-topic posts will be removed. Others may just be closed to comments if they are borderline. There are thousands of members in this group and we are passionate about this community. Those members who don’t follow the posting guidelines diminish the value of the group for everyone. If these guidelines are repeatedly not followed, you will be removed from the group. Anyone who is removed from the group may also be blocked, so they won't be able to rejoin.

5. Have patience with others in the group. The 52WAV list attracts a lot of beginner hikers, along with more experienced ones. Many questions will be asked over and over again, but please keep in mind that while these questions may seem like old hat to some of us, they are new for folks who are just starting out.

6. All membership requests are reviewed mainly to weed out spammers and fake / sockpuppet accounts. Profiles are also checked to make sure the member actively hikes in New Hampshire. Profiles that are locked down tight, have no profile photo, do not have real names, or clearly show no indication that someone is a hiker won't be accepted. The goal here is to create a community of motivated and interested members who will engage with and contribute to the group. Also, if you are in other Facebook hiking groups, please be aware that your public goings-on in those groups may be a consideration for membership in this one. Just sayin'.

7. Please don't invite your FB friends to the group. Only membership requests from those who ask to join themselves will be reviewed. Invites will be declined. If you think a friend would be interested, certainly let them know and ask them to request membership. This isn't to dissuade new members, but more for folks to decide for themselves if they definitely want to be part of the group and to prevent folks from being added to groups against their wishes.

8. No generalized selling, advertisements, fundraisers, business promotion, self-promotion, petitions, campaigns, events, or other commercial stuff. That said, if you have something 52WAV-related that you want to let people know about, please shoot me a message first to discuss. Also, If you've got a blog where you are posting your hikes, and it's supported by ads, and it's clear you are trying to use the group to drive traffic to it, your posts could be removed.

9. If you feel that a post or comment is off-topic, abusive, obscene or otherwise questionable, you can report it to be addressed. To report a post, click on the three dot icon or drop-down arrow on the upper right corner of the post and select "Report to Admin", and I'll get a notification and can take a peek.

10. Please be kind and awesome. Karma and all that :) Thank you and happy hiking!!
